General Tips for Measuring Ring Size

The following general tips and guidelines are useful when considering ring measuring and will help ensure you select the most appropriate ring size for your finger.

1. Finger size can change according to temperature

Fingers can often become bigger in warm weather and shrink in cold weather. Measure your finger in warm temperatures at the end of the day, as the finger will be at its largest during this time.

2. Finger size can differ

Generally speaking, one of your hands is slightly larger (about half a size) than the other. The first three fingers of the same hand can often be different in size too.

If this is the case for you, it's best to measure the hand/finger that you intend to wear your ring on, or find the ring size that best fits both hands or all of the fingers you like to wear your rings on.

3. Account for your knuckle size

You should account for knuckle size when measuring, especially if you are using the string method. The string/paper should not be wrapped too tight and should be able to slide over your knuckle comfortably so that you can put on and take off your ring easily.

If the base of your finger is a lot smaller than your finger knuckle is, you can measure both the base of your finger and your knuckle, and select a size in between the two, so that it can slide over your knuckle but not be too big for your finger.

4. If you are between sizes

When two sizes seem to fit or if your ring size falls between two measurements, it’s best to opt for the larger size.
